Preserving Mom’s Stories: Sara’s Remento Experience

Sara used Remento to preserve her mom’s stories and discovered memories they hadn't heard before, while creating something their family can look back on.

Sara wanted to preserve her mom’s stories, but what she didn't expect was how much there was still to discover. Even when you think you've heard all the stories, there can be memories that haven't been shared before.

A Gift That Brought Old Memories Back

I wanted to give my mom a way to share her memories and stories. One of the things I appreciated was seeing how the experience gave her an opportunity to revisit parts of her life and bring those memories forward.

“Remento is such a great tool. It brought up a lot of old memories and things for my mom to talk about and share.”

It was meaningful to have those memories come up naturally and have Mom share them with us. Some of the things that came back were stories and memories that hadn't been part of the conversations we'd had before.

The Stories We Didn’t Know Were There

You can know someone for a long time and still have parts of their story that you haven't heard. That's what stood out to me as we went through this experience. I realized that knowing my mom well didn't necessarily mean I knew all of her stories.

“You think you've heard all the stories, but it's interesting what's triggered through the course of the year using Remento, things that we haven't heard before.”

Those new stories are part of what makes this so meaningful to me. They're giving our family a chance to hear more from Mom and preserve memories that we might not have known about otherwise.

More Than a Book to Look Back On

What makes this especially meaningful to me is knowing that we won't just have the written stories and pictures. We'll also have the chance to see my mom actually speaking and telling the stories herself.

“To be able to see video of the person actually speaking and telling the story along with the book, which has the pictures and the written content. Once someone's passed, to have that to look back on is going to be really, really good for our family.”

That feels especially important to me because I wish Remento had been around sooner to capture some of my dad's stories before we lost him. Having the opportunity to preserve Mom's stories now is something I'm grateful we have.

Stories We’ll Carry With Us

I'm very happy with Remento, and I've told several people about it. Mom has certainly shared her experience with Remento with other people as well.

“Anybody thinking about using Remento, just do it. It's super easy to use, and it's priceless.”

For me, that's really what this comes down to. There are stories that matter to our family, and I'm glad we have the opportunity to preserve them.
