Real Stories

McKayla purchased Remento for her grandparents during the holidays. She describes what it's like to use Remento to discover things about her family that she never knew, and the joy of watching her young kids learn those stories too. Get the Remento Book for your family too.

I'm learning things about people I've known my entire life, and that's been really cool. And now I'm a parent and my kids love when the stories come through. They can sit and listen.

Why I bought the Remento Book

I’m very close with my grandparents and what I love most about Remento is that it creates an opportunity to learn the stories that would never have otherwise come up. Recently, there were a few health scares with my grandparents and it just makes me realize about the time I still have with them and the opportunities they have to share their life history, their stories and the wisdom they have. I originally bought one book for my grandfather but ended up buying one for my grandmother after she told me how much she loved my grandfather’s Remento Book. Now everyone in my family has a book!

What I like about the Remento Book

When my aunt brought up Remento as a way of us keeping our family's history, we loved the fact that we can record and hear the stories from their perspective. Every time there's a new story, I'll sit down with my kids and soak up the small details that I'd forget if it wasn’t recorded.

My kids love it when a new story is recorded and they get to see their grandparents on the screen. The video captures not only the memory they are sharing, but also the way they narrate everything in their own words, how they remembered it, and their gestures. My whole family has been really involved and loves how we can have conversations about what our grandparents have shared.

I was really delighted that my grandparents have had absolutely no problem using Remento. Sometimes they record from their own device, but because we live close, I really enjoy recording their stories together. I’ll hold up the phone for them and listen to them respond to the prompt.

Remento’s customer support has also been a great resource, full of teammates who helped me navigate the few questions I had along the way.

I’m learning things about people I've known my entire life

My grandmother is the historian of the family and I have so many wonderful memories of the stories she would tell me - whenever and wherever. With Remento, I’m able to capture these stories, which is wonderful. But the most amazing part of the experience has been learning brand new stories about her life - from the big, important moments in her life to the smaller, everyday occurrences that are so distinctly her. Having Remento gave us a way to bottle up all these stories for us to look back on in the future.

I love Remento’s prompts

I’ve never had a hard time learning about the big moments that defined my grandmother’s life - like her wedding and having children. But those are relatively such a small selection of the moments that made her the person she is today. The prompts that Remento recommends have been truly helpful in exploring new areas, in large part because they’re areas I’d never thought to ask her about.

I love the fact the we are getting a physical book

What excites us most about Remento is getting a physical book printed that we’ll be able to pass down to my kids and their kids. My grandmother loves the idea of having a family history book filled with stories about them and their lives. I'm just thrilled to have something that my family can enjoy looking through together, reference to, and reflect on as well. This book will become a key piece of their legacy and a forever tribute to the amazing people they are and lives they’ve lived.

It’s become a true family affair

I had all four of my grandparents signed up and ready to create their own books. While they’re the ones recording each week, many more members of the family have joined in the journey of helping them documenting their stories - picking prompts, customizing questions, uploading photos, and sharing reactions. My kids love hearing these stories today, and I know will come to treasure them even more in the future.
