The Memories I Didn’t Know I Still Had: Gail’s Story with Remento
Gail uses Remento to preserve her life stories, rediscover family memories, and share the stories behind her photographs in her own voice with her children and grandchildren.

There are memories that seem to disappear quietly, carried somewhere beyond our immediate reach by the passing years. For Gail, a question from her daughter, an old photograph, or the sound of her own voice can bring one back. What began as a gift of Remento has become a journey into the past, allowing Gail to preserve her stories through video and audio while sharing the voice, feeling, and personality within them.
How I Began Preserving My Life Stories
I had never thought of myself as someone who would sit down and write my life story. With Remento, I can simply receive a question and begin talking. One memory often leads to another, and before I know it, I am somewhere in the past I had not visited for years.
“When I record my stories on Remento, I forget I’m even talking into a microphone. I just talk and talk, and suddenly I’m down Memory Lane.”
I can record a video or just my voice, depending on what I feel like doing. I do not need to find the perfect words before I begin. Once I submit the recording, Remento creates the stories that are set to become chapters for my Remento book.
The Questions That Bring Memories Back
The weekly Remento questions my daughter sends have changed how I look at my old photographs. I find myself searching through albums for pictures to include, and in the process, memories return. One photograph can bring back a person, a place, or a little story I had not thought about in years.
“Looking through my photo albums to find ones to put in the Remento book brings back memories I didn’t even realize I still had.”
Some questions come from other family members too, which I particularly like. They are often things I would never think to talk about myself, but they are curious about them. Their questions give me a reason to share another small piece of my life with them.

The Remento Book That Holds My Memories
One of the nicest surprises has been discovering what the experience has given me. Sometimes I finish recording and think, goodness, I did not realize I still had that memory in me. Saying things aloud has brought back feelings and moments I had not visited for years.
“I didn’t realize I had certain memories until I started recording them. When I finish, I feel peaceful and so glad I had the chance to talk about them.”
There have also been little moments with my daughter. After I recorded one story that tugged at the heartstrings, she texted me about 15 minutes later with a few hearts saying, “I love you, I’m proud of you.” It reminded me that memories are not only things we keep for some imagined future. They can travel back to us in the present, making their way from one person to another. And when my family looks through my Remento book, they can scan the QR codes and hear me telling the stories themselves, bringing a little more of the person behind the words into the room.

The Family Stories I Want to Leave Behind
As we get older, I think we become more aware of what we can share with our children and grandchildren. A photograph can show someone’s face, and a name can tell you who they were, but a story gives you something more. It lets you understand the life behind the photograph.
“The stories I record on Remento show my family that I’m not just a name or a figure. There’s a whole life behind the person they know.”
That is what has made this experience so special for me. I am not only recording memories for my family to have in the future. I am enjoying them now, finding things I had forgotten and having the chance to talk about them. A legacy book can preserve the shape of a life, while video and audio preserve something of its living presence.
